About Tongue River Winery

Tongue River Winery, founded by Bob and Marilyn Thaden, has been crafting exceptional Montana wines since 2010. Specializing in wines made entirely from fruits and grapes that grow in Montana, the winery produces over two dozen unique blends — all created from hardy hybrid grapes and fascinating local fruits. If it won’t grow here, it won’t be fermented.

Bob and Marilyn’s dedication to quality and sustainability is evident in every bottle. With three acres of hybrid grapes and hundreds of shrubs and trees in the vineyard, 20–30,000 pounds of locally grown fruit are transformed each year into more than 1,000 cases of wine. The winery has earned over 100 awards for its commitment to excellence.

Passion drives every aspect of Tongue River Winery — from vineyard to tasting room. Bob, who began making wine in 1968, followed his lifelong dream from planting the first grapes in 2005 to opening the winery in 2009. Marilyn, a retired speech pathologist and lifelong gardener, manages the tasting room and supports vineyard operations. Together, they welcome all guests to share in their “passion in a bottle.”

Since June 2024, Dustin and Hannah Strong, owners of Otium Brewing in Miles City, have joined as vineyard and winery apprentices, bringing youth, energy, and business savvy to the team.
