The Scrappy Owl Quilt Shop was founded by Keelyn Fawcett and officially opened its doors on July 11, 2025, bringing a much-needed quilting destination to Miles City, Montana. After moving to Miles City from Oregon in 2021, Keelyn and her husband were looking for a small-town community where they could enjoy a quieter way of life and keep their horses. They quickly found that Miles City felt like home—and they’ve never looked back.

Keelyn has been quilting since middle school and has spent many years working as a long-arm quilter. Through her experience, she recognized both the depth of her craft and a growing need in the community. With the nearest quilt shop more than an hour away, it became clear that Miles City deserved a local space dedicated to quilting, creativity, and connection. From that realization, The Scrappy Owl was born.

The Scrappy Owl Quilt Shop was created with a simple but meaningful vision: to be a welcoming place where quilters of all skill levels—whether brand new or highly experienced—feel comfortable, supported, and inspired. The shop reflects the strong quilting community in the region and serves as a hub where people can gather, learn, and share their passion for the craft.

In addition to the shop itself, Keelyn actively supports and promotes the local quilting community through events like the Open Sew held at Miles Community College on the third Thursday of every month (Room 108). These gatherings help bring quilters together, strengthen relationships, and foster creativity.
