The WaterWorks Art Museum is a cultural treasure in the heart of Miles City, Montana. Housed in a historic 1910 waterworks building overlooking the Yellowstone River, the museum celebrates creativity, history, and community. In the 1970’s the concrete water basins were converted into art galleries & studios. These spaces have hosted the WaterWorks Art Museum’s rotating exhibitions, workshops, classes and special events since 1976. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum is a cultural leader in southeastern Montana, dedicated to making art accessible and meaningful for everyone. They provide high-quality exhibits in the visual arts and humanities, create educational opportunities for schools, civic groups, and the general public, and offer programs that inspire creativity and learning. The museum also cares for and shares its permanent collection, ensuring these artworks are properly managed and preserved as a resource held in public trust.

Beyond exhibitions, the museum is a hub for learning and connection—hosting art classes, workshops, and special events that bring people together. Whether you’re a lifelong art enthusiast or simply curious, the museum provides a welcoming space to experience culture, creativity, and community.

The WaterWorks Art Museum features a wide variety of exhibitions that showcase local, regional, and national artists. With seven rotating exhibits annually, each visit provides a fresh perspective on the visual arts and humanities.

The museum also offers programs and events designed to engage and inspire people of all ages. These include hands-on workshops, community lectures, and art classes for children and adults, providing opportunities for education, creativity, and connection within the community.
