About Miles City Area Chamber of Commerce

The Miles City Area Chamber of Commerce has been a cornerstone of the community since 1876, the very year Miles City itself was founded. Officially incorporated in 1944, the Chamber continues its long tradition as a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening local business, promoting tourism, and enhancing the quality of life in Custer County.

Guided by a 14-member Board of Directors, the Chamber’s day-to-day operations are led by Executive Director John Laney, who has served since November 2005. John brings a lifetime of experience in public service and private enterprise, including 20 years with the State of Montana and work in the restaurant, radio, and automotive industries. Inspired by his father’s leadership of the Chamber in Merced, California, and his own passion for community, John carries forward a vision of growth and opportunity for Miles City.

The Chamber fulfills its mission through three primary strategies: event planning, tourism marketing, and business awareness. From hosting community events that draw visitors, to showcasing local history and attractions that encourage travelers to stop and explore, to fostering a positive environment for area residents and businesses alike, the Chamber is proud to serve as a catalyst for economic vitality and community pride.
