Shane Taylor Knives is the lifelong craft and passion of Master Bladesmith Shane Taylor, a world-renowned knife maker and fourth-generation Montanan who has been creating knives since the age of twelve. What began as a young ranch kid wanting a quality working knife grew into a distinguished career that has shaped the art of modern Damascus and earned Shane international recognition.

Shane became a full-time bladesmith in 1992 and achieved his Master Smith rating with the American Bladesmith Society in 2000. In 2001, he was honored as the first-ever recipient of the James Schmidt Award at the East Coast Custom Knife Show in New York City. Over the years, he has been awarded Best Damascus Knife and Blade Handmade Award at the Blade Show in Atlanta multiple times. His work has been featured in Blade, Knives Illustrated, Tactical Knives, Knife World, Knives Annual, and numerous European and Japanese publications.

Shane’s journey began with a simple coal forge, a hammer, and an anvil. After discovering Damascus steel at age 23, he became captivated by its artistic potential — especially mosaic Damascus, which offers virtually limitless room for creativity. His interest deepened after hosting a hammer-in with Master Smith Steve Schwarzer, whose groundbreaking techniques inspired Shane to push the boundaries of the craft.

Today, Shane is best known for one-of-a-kind art knives that combine technical precision with bold artistic style. His signature work features pictorial mosaic Damascus, intricate engravings, and high-end materials, including ancient ivories such as mammoth and fossil walrus. Signature designs like the Batwing Fighter, Batwing Folder, and his collaborative creation — the Montana Boy Folder — have become highly regarded among collectors around the world.

For Shane, knifemaking is more than forging steel — it’s creating heirloom pieces meant to be admired, used, and eventually passed down. Every knife that leaves his workshop reflects decades of mastery, a deep respect for the craft, and a dedication to producing truly exceptional blades.

At Shane Taylor Knives, the goal is simple: Create knives that blend performance, art, and legacy — one masterpiece at a time.
